Land Use Education and Training

Collaborating with a wide range of public and non-profit agencies, the Division works to meet the education and training needs of municipal land use officials including staff and volunteer members of Planning Commissions, Zoning Boards and Development Review Boards.

Vermont Planning Information Center (VPIC)
A website for members of local planning commissions, zoning boards and development review boards: VPIC was developed by DHCA along with partners from the Land Use Education and Training Collaborative. This website is designed to provide a clearinghouse of information for local land use officials. Start by reviewing the Wecome Packet for new officials on the VPIC home page.

Municipal Education Grant (MEG) Program
Small grants of up to $800 are available for training volunteer boards and commissions. Application may be submitted any time until May 15, 2007.

Local planning and land use regulation is governed by state statute - 24. V.S.A. Chapter 117. A wealth of resources and tools for planning and development review are available on the Chapter 117 page. This page provides municipalities with handbooks, manuals, templates, check sheets and other tools that explain the statute and help municipalities comply with the requirements.

For upcoming training events See "What's New" and Events Calendar on the VPIC home page.
