Growth Center designation, adopted in 2006, is the latest in a 20 year chain of legislation, study committees and policy aimed at implementing the first state planning goal in Title 24VSA section 4302 to plan development to maintain the historic settlement pattern of compact village and urban development surrounded by rural countryside. Statute was amended in 2010 to change the Growth Center application review process and some of the designation requirements. published their: Guidelines to assist in identifying
agricultural lands, in compliance with 6 VSA section 8. The Vermont Neighborhoods Program seeks to promote housing within the designated centers. For more information
