The
Vermont Brownfields Initiative is a collaboration of the Agency
of Commerce and Community
Development (ACCD) and the Agency of Natural Resources (ANR).
Combining the economic and community development expertise of
ACCD with the technical environmental review functions of ANR
will expedite the clean up of vacant, contaminated sites and implement
productive re-use projects. This program will involve two
new funding sources. Successful projects will be well planned,
properly financed and meet the needs of the community.
Funding
ACCD's Vermont Community Development Program can provide funds for brownfield redevelopment projects. In addition to all other
applicable VCDP program requirements, all brownfields projects
must result in the reuse and occupation of the subject property
within two years.
The Brownfields Revitalization Fund (BRF), administered
by ACCD, provides eligible applicants with the ability to borrow
up to $250,000 at attractive rates and terms for assessment, characterization
and cleanup of contaminated sites. For project
development assistance and financing, or information on how to
apply to the Brownfields Revitalization Fund visit the ACCD Department
of Economic Development.
Technical assistance
The Vermont Redevelopment
of Contaminated Properties Program (RCPP) administered
by the ANR Department of Environmental Conservation allows a prospective
purchaser to acquire and clean up a contaminated property in exchange
for receiving liability protection. More
