Grant Programs
  The Department of Housing and Community Affairs provides grants for a wide array of community development needs including housing, economic development, brownfields remediation, planning, historic preservation, accessibility improvements to municipal buildings, and other community development projects.
   
  Vermont Community Development Program
    Grants to municipalities that provide financial and technical assistance to identify and address local needs and priorities in the areas of housing, economic development, public facilities and public services for persons of lower income. MORE
     
  Land Use Planning
  Municipal Planning Grant (MPG) Program
    A state-funded program designed to support Vermont towns in their municipal planning and implementation efforts. No matching funds required. Grant applications are due postmarked September 28, 2007. MORE
     
  Municipal Education Grant (MEG) Program
   

Small grants of up to $800 are available for training volunteer boards and commissions. Application may be submitted any time until May 16, 2008. MORE
     
  Ancient Roads Research and Mapping Grant Program
    $5,000 maximum grants are available to all Vermont municipalities for the purpose of research and mapping of town highways, trails and unidentified corridors. Applications are due to DHCA postmarked by November 16, 2007. MORE
     
  Historic Preservation
     
  Barn Grant Program
    A 50/50 matching grants program to assist owners of historic agricultural buildings (barns, corn cribs, sheds, grist mills, etc.) in the restoration and repair of these endangered buildings. This program encourages the continued use of farm buildings for agricultural use. MORE
     
  Historic Preservation Grant Program
    A 50/50 matching grants program to assist municipalities and non-profit organizations in restoring important historic buildings across the state, thereby enhancing the public's awareness and appreciation of Vermont's cultural heritage. MORE
     
  Certified Local Government Grant Program
    Matching grants for a variety of historic preservation projects. Applicants must be municipalities that have been certified as meeting certain standards related to historic preservation. MORE
